A first victory

The Gatineau Olympiqueshave started their Maritimes trip on a good note by winning against the Halifax Mooseheads,

The game began quietly with no goal scored in the first period on either side.  The Olympiques nevertheless exploded in second period by scoring five times.

Tomas Hyka scored first to give the lead to Gatineau on a pass of Mikael Langlois.  This lead however was short-lived since Nathan MacKinnon (Abelthauser & Drouin) retorted a few seconds later.  The Olympiques benefitted from a power play towards the middle of the period and Martin Reway (Bourret) took the opportunity and scored his first goal in the QMJHL.  The team continued to perform by scoring three goals back to back.  Tomas Hyka, Dominic Poulin and Martin Reway gave their team a four goal lead to the Olympiques.

In the third period, Dominique Poulin with his second of the night put the game out of reach for the Mooseheads.

A fight burst out between Mickael Beauregard and Stefan Fournier at the end of the second period.  At the same moment, Adam Chapman and Nathan MacKinnon also had an altercation.  Both players were expelled of the game for fighting while another fight was taken place.   Mackenzie Weeger also received a misconduct penalty for having remained on the sight of a fight.

Michael Nishi was in front of the net for the Olympiques for a third consecutive game.  He stopped 29 shots.  For Halifax, Zach Fucale (9 saves) began the game before being replaced by the former Olympiques goalie, Chris Clarke (15 saves) after the fourth goal of Gatineau.  The Olympiques will play their next game tonight against the St-John Sea Dogs at 6h00pm Quebec time.
